Museum of the Broads – new safety equipment

Posted by on 18 Dec 2018 in Projects | 0 comments

The Museum of the Broads is a registered charity and welcomes many thousands of visitors each year. A grant was provided to support the fitting of a safety ladder on the Museum’s river frontage which has now been fitted. From this ladder will be a safety grab chain going to the southern and eastern ends of the existing quay heading.
It provides a safe means of exiting the water for visitors of all ages and volunteers who accidentally fell into the water from the quay heading, manoeuvring visitor boats some of whom may or may not be visiting the Museum and for the public mooring on the public staithe at Stalham adjacent to the Museum.

Grant amount: £1,742.80

Fitting of an electric motor to the Hunter Fleet Millennium Yacht, Lucent

Posted by on 18 Dec 2018 in Projects | 0 comments

Lucent is a traditionally built Broads yacht available for hire and is part of the Norfolk Heritage Fleet Trust at Hunters Yard.

Currently none of the fleet has an engine. The fitting of the motor is designed to enhance its attraction to a wider range of customers, families and young people as well as to enable the more “senior”, traditional customers to continue to enjoy sailing whilst ensuring that the Broads’ special environment is protected.

An electric engine has been identified which will provide an eco-friendly power source to this traditional Broads boat.

Amount granted: £1,000
Applicant: Norfolk Heritage Fleet
Business sponsor: Roys of Wroxham have donated £400 from their Making a Difference Locally fund towards this project

This path will greatly benefit tourists, the local community and the local economy which is heavily reliant on visitors to this charming Broads riverside village.
