Have you noticed how much cleaner the air feels and how more noticeable our wildlife seems to be?

These are such challenging times for everyone and everywhere, especially the unique Broads National Park but the good news is that there will never be a better time to recognise the beauty of our natural environment and how we may be able do things a little differently from now on to protect the wildlife, waterways and landscape. Managed badly the impact of tourism numbers on our fragile landscape can be very damaging. The challenge before us is how to retain our rediscovered world, reduce the impact our businesses create and look forward together to reducing climate change but also to operate in a viable environment for business and organisations.

At present, with all our business partners closed, we have little income but as plans for the future are developed we hope that our income will be restored.  Will a brave new world emerge from the ashes of the virus pandemic?

At Love the Broads we certainly hope so and we would like to work with our business partners and supporters to continue to raise funds to be channelled to exciting projects on the Broads which help wildlife and the environment but which also enhance the visitor experience. Please help us continue our work to keep the Broads special.   You can make a donation HERE

Thank you.

Due to the COVID-19 national emergency our generous business partners are all closed. These businesses and their customers provide most of the funds that we receive for distribution as grants so we regret that we are not in a position to accept grant applications at this time. We will make further announcements regarding grant applications in due course

A grant of £1,300 has been awarded to the Museum of the Broads to install an electrical and self-contained 12 volt charging system on  their Marsh Harrier boat.  It will enable the lift to be used without detriment to the normal running of the boat and create access for passengers unable to negotiate the boarding steps and to lower and raise passengers in wheelchairs into and off the boat.

We hope that everyone enjoys their boat trips on the Marsh Harrier.  Another project only made possible by the support of our business partners, their fantastic customers and our Members.

£1,200 has been awarded to The Broads Reed and Sedge Cutters’ Association to enable them to purchase 20 specialist mats so that they can access a number of sites that are managed for conservation and commercial reed, (renowned for its high quality and used in fencing and thatching roofs across the country) and sedge.

The mats will prevent ground damage to these biodiverse peat fens and facilitate the removal of the quality local product from the marsh. The reed cutters are having to adapt their operations to meet the challenges of climate change and rising sea levels.   Currently many areas of marsh can only be accessed on foot and laying these transportable and temporary track ways over areas of unstable ground will enable specialist machinery to remove the final product.

A grant of £2,000 has been awarded to the Friends of Salhouse Broad towards creating an exciting bespoke natural play space for everyone to enjoy. The new play area will encourage children and families to engage with the stunning natural woodland adjacent to the Broad and within The Broads National Park. It will widen the offer to both local residents and families visiting the area, encouraging them to visit at any time of the year and to stay for longer.

CAP.Co, a local, Broads-based company who are international leaders in the field of creating adventurous, playful, educational spaces, have been commissioned to deliver this project
